General Dentistry in Lakeland, FL

Grandmother, mom, and daughter laughing on a couch at general dentist near meJust like your primary care physician manages all your medical needs, a general dentist oversees all your dental needs. The benefit of choosing a "general dentist near me" is that you have a trusted professional to turn to with any questions or concerns.

At Quality Dental Care of Lakeland, we are general dentists; but you also have the benefit of receiving advanced services from Dr. Mohammad Zaman, DDS who specializes in three areas – prosthodontics, periodontics, and oral surgery. For this reason, we rarely need to refer our patients to a specialist, and you can usually receive all the care you need right here in one convenient location.

I have NEVER had a dentist as gentle as him!

I absolutely hate going to the dentist, my anxiety is so bad, I burst into tears, but let me tell you about Dr. Smith and his team.  100% Greatness.  A bit pricey for a cash paying patient but the gentle care, knowledge and vibe in the office is top notch.

The front office,  Luke likes to take credit for all these 5 star reviews, he does a great job giving his attention to the patients on the phone and in person.  Amy is a great addition to the office as well, she's spunky and lightens the air with her smile, and keeping everyone on point.

And Wendy ♥️♥️♥️ She is a star! She is so sweet and caring and explains everything so well from what to expect during the procedure process and why, to the post-care instructions and cool tips most wouldn't think to tell you.

Dr. SMITH!!!!! I have NEVER had a dentist as gentle as him!  Dude is down to earth, and just great at his profession.  He really took his time to make sure I was comfortable, even offered to reschedule me and give me something for my anxiety beforehand.  (I chose not to and just go through with it, was scared I wouldn't come back.)

Just thank you all so much!

Dr. Vernon Smith and Dr. Mohammad Zaman focus on preventive dental care, such as teeth cleanings and exams, because they are the easiest and most economical ways to ensure excellent oral health. Gum disease and tooth decay can take their toll on your oral health before you even know they exist, and these routine visits allow us to treat these problems before they do long-term damage to your oral health.

Finding and treating problems in their earliest stages also allows us to provide conservative options rather than waiting until the problem becomes serious, requiring costly and complex procedures to resolve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sensitive teeth can make it difficult to eat, drink, and brush your teeth. If you have sensitive teeth, our dentists at Quality Dental Care of Lakeland can help you.

Here are some effective treatments for sensitive teeth:

  • Desensitizing toothpaste. Brush your teeth twice daily with desensitizing fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush. Brushing too vigorously can harm the enamel, and desensitizing toothpaste is gentle on sensitive teeth.
  • Fluoride. Our fluoride treatments can help protect sensitive teeth and reduce discomfort. Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel, and your dentist in Lakeland, FL can provide you with treatment or prescription fluoride to use at home.
  • Dental bonding. Dental bonding uses composite resin to cover exposed, sensitive tooth roots.
  • Gum grafting. If you have receding gums, your dentist can perform a gum graft to cover the exposed tooth roots and reduce sensitivity.
  • Root canal therapy. Sometimes, a sensitive tooth may indicate you need a root canal. Our Lakeland dental office provides gentle root canals to remove infected tooth pulp and seal the tooth with a custom-made dental crown.

Dental fillings in Lakeland, FL can last for several years, depending on the material and size of the filling. The better you care for your oral health, the longer your filling is likely to last. At Quality Dental Care of Lakeland, Dr. Vernon Smith and our team provide tooth-colored fillings to treat decay and damage.

Over time, chewing forces can wear down a filling, and you may need to have it replaced. However, our custom dental fillings are designed to last for several years. On average, tooth-colored fillings, also known as white fillings, can last about 10 years. Amalgam (silver) fillings can also last about 10 years.

To improve the longevity of your tooth filling, we recommend the following:

  • Brush twice a day and floss once to maintain good oral hygiene.
  • Avoid eating sticky or crunchy foods that can damage the filling.
  • Wear a nightguard if you grind or clench your teeth to prevent dental damage and wear.
  • Visit your dentist in Lakeland for routine dental exams and professional teeth cleanings.

Patient looking in hand mirror at dentist near me Lakeland FLIf you have a cavity, you may not notice because it can appear anywhere on the teeth. For example, you may have a cavity between your teeth or way at the back.

In cases where you do spot a tooth cavity, it may appear as a tiny hole in the tooth or a brown spot. However, a brown spot can also be a tooth stain.

If the cavity is advanced, you may also have tooth sensitivity or tooth pain.

To properly diagnose and treat dental cavities, it’s essential to visit our dentists in Lakeland, FL. Your dentist can find a cavity during your routine exam, and our digital x-rays can detect small areas of decay between teeth.

If you’re prone to cavities, ask our dentist about dental sealants to help protect your teeth against decay. You should also be brushing and flossing regularly and visiting our dental office every six months for checkups and teeth cleanings.

When it comes to lowering your risks for most oral health conditions, prevention is your best defense.

We can tell you what’s wrong, but we also believe it’s important to educate you about matters that affect your oral health. For this reason, so we have invested in dental technology like digital dental x-rays and intraoral cameras that allow you to see what we see during an exam.

As we direct the small intraoral camera over your teeth, the images appear in real time on your chairside monitor. This makes it easy for our doctors to point out problem areas, explain your treatment options, and help you make an informed and confident decision about your care.

Digital dental x-rays are valuable because we can see and treat small problems long before they damage your oral health and cause discomfort.
